Domaine Thierry Drouin, nestled in the Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy, embodies a viticultural philosophy deeply rooted in respect for nature and terroir. Established in 1981 by Thierry Drouin and now managed alongside his son Charles, the estate spans approximately 10 hectares, primarily cultivating Chardonnay on ancient clay and limestone soils . Their approach emphasizes sustainable farming practices, such as ploughing instead of chemical spraying to enhance soil aeration and microbial life, and employing Guyot pruning to ensure vine health and longevity. Yield control is achieved by removing extra buds in spring, promoting grape concentration and quality. Chemical interventions are minimal, with sulfur and copper treatments used only when necessary, and no insecticides are applied . This meticulous care in the vineyard is mirrored in the cellar, where grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and fermented using gravity-fed methods, followed by aging on fine lees in oak barrels to preserve the wine's purity and expressiveness . Through this harmonious blend of traditional techniques and thoughtful innovation, Domaine Thierry Drouin crafts wines that authentically reflect their unique terroir.(wineandco.com, Pierreclos Imports)
