Domaine Girard is a family-owned vineyard situated in Alaigne, within the Aude department of southern France, nestled in the heart of the Cathar Country near Carcassonne. Established in 1928, the estate is currently managed by Philippe Girard, who continues the family's winemaking tradition. The vineyard spans approximately 30 hectares and is part of the AOP Malepère appellation, known for its unique terroir characterized by a blend of Mediterranean and Atlantic climatic influences. This distinctive environment, combined with the region's clay-limestone soils, allows for the cultivation of both red and white grape varieties, including Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. Domaine Girard is committed to sustainable viticulture and achieved the High Environmental Value (HVE) Level 3 certification in 2019, reflecting its dedication to environmentally friendly practices.

Philippe Girard

Philippe Girard, the fourth-generation winemaker at Domaine Girard in Alaigne, France, has been immersed in viticulture since childhood, accompanying his father through the vineyards of Malepère. After completing studies in winemaking and viticulture at Libourne and gaining experience in Nuits-Saint-Georges, he took over the family estate in 2000, marking the beginning of Domaine Girard's own bottlings. Under his leadership, the estate has expanded to over 30 hectares, cultivating grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. Philippe's commitment to sustainable practices led to the construction of a new winery in 2017 and the attainment of High Environmental Value (HVE) Level 3 certification in 2019, reflecting his dedication to environmentally friendly viticulture.
